West Mineral is a city in Cherokee County, Kansas, United States. It is the home of Big Brutus, the second largest electric shovel in the world. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 185.[1]

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 243 people, 100 households, and 73 families residing in the city. The population density was 709.2 people per square mile (275.9/km²). There were 121 housing units at an average density of 353.2 per square mile (137.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.30% White, 2.06% Native American, and 1.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.47% of the population.
There were 100 households out of which 28.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 13.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 23.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.82.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older.
